jords on jords.

Well hello beautiful! This is where I write about some stuff, sometimes. Thanks for the visit, etc.

I’ve lived here four months and while I’ve mastered the walk to and from work, I have done little else in the way of exploring my new city.

To remedy this, I have decided that each week I will do one new thing in Ottawa. (Unrelated: I will also make time to start cooking again.)

Today I went to Umi Cafe, on Somerset and Percy.  I brought a book and my ipod, which turned out to be unnecessary since there was a dude playing classical guitar. This place kind of reminded me of Montreal cafes, which was nice since I’ve been a little homesick lately. I had a latte and read a book—I was glad it was the kind of place where you can just hang out and not feel pressured to leave as soon as you’re done.  Nonetheless, Umi was pretty busy and everyone there seemed to know each other.  I will have to start going more, as the whole purpose of forcing myself to do new things is to develop a sense of community outside of work.
